Can’t say enough kind words about Gord and Carolyn! I moved to the area last year and was so happy to stumble across this amazing location. I have purchased 2 amazing reptiles from them and they are both absolutely amazing! The customer service is great and they have an amazing selection of reptiles! Love the little crochet plushies my daughter can’t get enough of them! Everytime we go into the store she either leaves with a reptile or plush lol I truly can’t saying enough amazing things about House of Scales! I highly recommend visiting weather you’re looking to buys or just see something cool check them out!! We are now regulars!
Gord went above and beyond in helping us set up a new home for a red albino hognose. He made us feel comfortable and confident in venturing into the world of snakes. Snake was in amazing shape and health and has been happy in his new home. If you're unsure of getting into reptiles come ina ND speak with these people, they will 100% put your mind at ease
Though I’m not a reptile keeper, I do come in to check out the store quite often. I can’t say I fully disagree with a few of the other reviews saying that some staff are “rude”, but in complete fairness it always seems to be when the store is busy or the weather is hot. I’d be a little grumpy too! Aside from the staff being human (lmfao), this shop is absolutely wonderful! There’s always new things to look forward to, whether that be new supplies, feeders, or pets. Consistent large variety and reasonable prices store-wide. Also, the ratings saying the staff mistreat the animals are quite clearly written by someone trying to cause a stink. All of the animals are happy and healthy, even the feeder hornworms for crying out loud. Keep being awesome, House of Scales! xoxo
Small store, lots of variety. Some reptiles were either being not probably housed or in the middle of hopefully being moved around. Very tight space for more then 4 people. Don't sell live rodents for feeders. Unless you special order a head and was told even then it's not a gaurantee. Don't ask or you get snapped at. Server was doing her job however she could have had a more welcoming attitude. Store is good for basic reptile needs, I wouldn't recommend for more special needs.
Bad experience here ordering 2 rats. I was told they would be in the following Friday I called that day and it sure sounded like the woman was having a bad day and being very rude to me and my Fiance when she went to pick them up she got mad because I called from work and she told me they were not there as my fiance was on the way so she decided to be rude to her also telling her I called in a very rude manner. It's very unfortunate as I go above and beyond to be respectful just to be treated with disrespect. The 11 dollars I lost was worth not dealing with them at all. If you work in customer service at least be respectful towards your customers I can't imagine the revenue lost just because of this employee.
Great place with super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Came in last week looking for a new type of food for my Whites Tree Frogs other than crickets. The lady at the front desk (unfortunately, can't remember her name) helped me to figure out exactly what I should be feeding them and even helped me find a new light for the tank. My new go-to reptile store in Peterborough.
Super knowledgeable, and helped us know exactly what we needed for our new beardie. Staff member helping was very patient, and answered questions from my autistic and anxiety filled kiddo.
